About Avon Interfaith

History

Our story begins with an idea...

Avon Interfaith Council was founded in the early 1980s with one goal in mind–keeping the people in our community fed and housed.  Then, as now, it didn’t matter that the founding member churches had different ideas about theology and practice.   What mattered was that we all believed that taking care of our neighbors is one of the most important jobs a person of faith can do, and that we’re more effective when we work together.

Today, Avon Interfaith exists to support the Avon community through volunteer service, fundraising and distribution, and organizational support.  We administer the Avon Food Pantry, and raise funds through projects like the Avon Walk for Hunger, and arranging food collection.

Avon Interfaith also supports other community organizations, both faith-based and secular, including the senior center, the nursing home, the Heat Fund (administered by Catholic Charities), Avon Community Youth Group, Stone’s Closet, and the Avon Free Library.  We are proud of our community and pleased to our part in making sure that everyone in Avon has the opportunity to get what they need.
